Step into the quiet, ancient world of mosses and lichens with Dr. William R. Buck, renowned bryologist at the New York Botanical Garden. This leisurely walk through Innisfree’s woodland paths and rocky outcrops will reveal the fascinating lives of these often-overlooked organisms that play an essential role in healthy ecosystems.
Dr. Buck will share how mosses and lichens grow, reproduce, and adapt to their surroundings — from boulders and tree trunks to the garden’s damp, shaded hillsides and hollows. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of how these resilient plants shape and enrich the landscape at Innisfree and beyond. Botanical names will be introduced along the way, but the emphasis will be on seeing the natural world through a new lens of appreciation and wonder.
