Wild Clay Pastel-Making with E. Saffronia Downing

Artist E. Saffronia Downing sources wild clay from all over the country for use in her work, and in this workshop she'll show you how to create “soil pastels” using this simple and essential material. Participants will learn techniques for processing raw clay to create writing/drawing tools using locally sourced elements. We also will spend some time making drawings together using our soil pastels. All ages welcome, coffee and tea served.

E. Saffronia Downing works with wild clay to create site-specific installations and sculptures. Downing has exhibited nationally and internationally. She recently moved to Newburgh, NY.
